# Connect an AI assistant (MCP)

> Let Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client read your cards and balances, and freeze or top up a card, on your behalf.

StableMesh runs a [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (MCP) server. Connect it to an AI assistant and you can ask things like "what cards do I have" or "freeze the card ending 6654" in plain language.

| | |
| - | - |
| Server URL | `https://mcp.stablemesh.io/mcp/sse` |
| Transport | HTTP + SSE |
| Sign-in | OAuth. You sign in with your StableMesh email and a one-time code. |

You never paste an API key or password into the assistant.

<Note>
  MCP access is switched on per account. If the assistant connects but every request answers **agent mode is not enabled for this account yet**, contact support to have it enabled.
</Note>

## Connect Claude (claude.ai)

1. In claude.ai, go to **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Click **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter the URL `https://mcp.stablemesh.io/mcp/sse`. Leave the client ID and secret empty.
4. Click **Connect**. A StableMesh sign-in page opens.
5. Enter your email and the one-time code we send you.
6. On the consent page, choose what Claude may do (see [Permissions](#permissions)) and click **Allow**.

In a chat, turn on the StableMesh connector from the tools menu, then ask your question.

***

## Connect Claude Code

Run:

```bash theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport sse stablemesh https://mcp.stablemesh.io/mcp/sse
```

Then run `/mcp` inside Claude Code and pick **stablemesh**. Your browser opens the same sign-in and consent pages.

## Connect ChatGPT

Custom connectors need a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu).

1. In ChatGPT, go to **Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced** and turn on **Developer mode**.
2. Create a connector. Give it a name and enter the URL `https://mcp.stablemesh.io/mcp/sse`.
3. Set authentication to **OAuth**. Leave the client ID and secret empty.
4. Sign in with your email and one-time code, then choose permissions and click **Allow**.

In a chat, pick the connector from the developer mode tools.

## Other MCP clients

Any client that supports MCP over HTTP + SSE with OAuth 2.1 can connect. It discovers everything from the server URL:

* Protected resource metadata: `https://mcp.stablemesh.io/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/mcp/sse`
* Authorization server metadata: `https://mcp.stablemesh.io/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server`

PKCE (`S256`) is required. Only the Claude and ChatGPT web apps, and desktop or command-line clients that redirect to `localhost` or `127.0.0.1`, are accepted. Other web-hosted clients are refused at sign-in.

## Permissions

The consent page lists five permissions. The assistant can only do what you allow.

| Permission | Lets the assistant |
| - | - |
| `cards:read` | List your cards, see a card's details, balance and transactions, card products, fees and limits, and whether you can open a new card. |
| `wallet:read` | See your USD account balance, wallet assets, deposit addresses and bills. |
| `profile:read` | See your profile and your card allowance. |
| `withdraw:read` | Reserved. No tool uses it yet. |
| `cards:write` | Freeze or unfreeze a card, rename a card, top up a card from your USD account, and move money from a card back to your USD account. |

<Warning>
  `cards:write` moves money between your own USD account and your own cards. It can never send money to an outside address or a blockchain wallet. Leave it unticked if you only want the assistant to read.
</Warning>

The assistant can **never** show card numbers or CVVs, delete a card, create a card, or withdraw to a wallet. Do those in the dashboard.

A top-up on some card types is held first and reaches the card once it is approved. The assistant tells you when that happens.

## Sign-in lifetime and disconnecting

* A sign-in lasts **12 hours**. Clients that support refresh tokens stay connected for up to **30 days**. Otherwise the assistant asks you to sign in again.
* To disconnect, remove the StableMesh connector in the assistant's settings. The next request after that is refused.
